Let’s Sing A Feelings Song (for kids)

(20 May 2011)#

Children are often taught to suppress their feelings, rather than use them as a central source of information to intelligently guide their perception and behaviour. This song presents a positive,  integrated view of emotions. Kids (and adults) can have  fun making up actions to go with the words.

All my feelings, all my feelings

All my feelings are talking to me

C Am F G
Sometimes I'm excited, sometimes I'm relieved
C Am F G
Sometimes I'm so happy I'm just really, really pleased
C Am F G
Often I am frightened, sometimes I am sad
C Am F G C
Sometimes I am angry and get really, really mad

Sometimes I'm uncertain and sometimes I am clear
Sometimes I feel guilty, or I wish a friend was near
All my feelings tell me things about what's going on
Inside me and around me, so let's sing a feelings song!

               G C C/B Am
All my feelings, all my feelings
               Dm G7 C
All my feelings are talking to me

Sometimes I am peaceful, I'm just so relaxed
Sometimes I am hyped up or I'm stressed out to the max
Sometimes I am tired and inclined to be a grump
If I'm feeling hurt I might be right down in the dumps
*
Sometimes I am joyful, I feel really free
Sometimes I am thinking of someone I'd love to see
All my feelings tell me things about what's going on
Inside me and around me so let' sing a feelings song!

All my feelings, all my feelings

What a wonderful song for children! For anyone! Your beautiful singing, Anita, reminds me of Wordsworth’s “She Dwelt among the Untrodden Ways.” You deserve a great audience; I hope they will find you.

  4. Thank you. Unfortunately, to many, as you have said, feeling are something to be feared.
